This is a great question! I would start by having as many different reporters be assigned a solutions story as possible in a rotation, and have them share their reflections, challenges and learnings at pitch meetings. Even breaking news reporters could do one as a follow up to a previous breaking story. I would also have my reporters start looking for the positive deviant also in any data they are using for their regular stories. Even if they aren't writing a solutions story that week, just getting them in the habit of looking at data that way would be great. I also would do exercises with everyone to practice thinking about how to slice and breakdown stories into small enough slices for solutions journalism to work.
Based on the material we have gone through so far, how would you start building a robust solutions practice in your newsroom?
