In my newsroom

In my newsroom

To build a robust solutions practice in the newsroom, I would encourage policies to be tweaked in order to support this practice. This way, journalists will feel supported in their endeavours.

Secondly, I would encourage a culture in the newsroom where there is more transparency between journalists, and also a room to explore potential solutions. With exchange of information, journalists are able to expand their horizon on potential solutions to a global problem, and add a richer narrative to the story that they are pursuing.

Thirdly, I would encourage more lead time between publishing of articles (especially at the start of a new  solutions journalism practice) to prevent "lazy reporting" and allow journalists more time to dig deeper into the tension of the narrative and finding unlikely characters.

With an environment where journalists feel safe and supported in their work, it is likely that they are able to approach solutions journalism with a confident mind and the courage to try new things.
