Dutch data journalism platform Pointer tracked down hundreds of unencrypted security cameras

Pointer, a data journalism platform in The Netherlands, discovered and tracked down hundreds of internet connected security cameras that were openly accessible to anyone. Some of the cameras were live streaming from inside the offices of medical professionals, revealing very sensitive information about their clients. The team used the actual security footage to track down where those cameras were located in order to confront the owners.

Thank you for sharing this.  The data illustrated how widespread this is. I wonder how much inappropriate surveillance is happening here in the US Virgin Islands.

I have shared the article with a colleague who is a reporter. Perhaps she could look into possible issues in the USVI. As a photographer it’s a bit out of my league.

A good place to start would be https://www.insecam.org. A quick search on this site didn't reveal any results in the U.S. Virgin Islands though.
