Hi students,

Welcome to Module 4!

This week we focus on using data in investigative reporting. As data has become more widely available, it also has become an integral source that helps journalists uncover stories that might otherwise never be reported.

This module includes two video lectures discussing how data can inform your reporting and make your stories more interactive, plus free tools that can help you gather, clean, analyze and visualize data. We’ll also include some resources that can help you learn the technical skills necessary to work with data.

I’ll pop into the exercise forums over the course of the week and try to participate when I can.

This is a massive course, so I can’t give one-on-one feedback, but I will do my best to provide observations in some special messages to you every week.

Please complete the module activities before the end of the week. This includes watching the video lectures, doing the readings, participating in the forums and completing the quiz.

If you have a question for me about the course content, reach out to me through the “Question for the instructors” forum.

Cheers,

Denise
